PRINCE IN THE WORLD OF MUSIC

Lokadarshan News Desk

Back in the year of 90’s, in the premises of our school every year I saw him joyfully playing Christmas jingles there he was, at a very early age he had met his love – music.  Little did he know that his budding passion for music would unknowingly turn his passion into a successful career. Prince Mulla – hailing from our Belagavi city, is making us proud through his music. A young entrepreneur, artist, music producer and a motivational speaker he has so many tags attached to his name. He is currently running a music studio, ‘Prince Mulla Music and Production Studio’ in the city of dreams – Mumbai.

Excerpts:

·         What inspired you to pursue a career in music?

I started playing from the age of 4 and as a child I didn’t think about making it my career all I knew was I loved playing piano. It was only when I started my 10th Std. that I started practicing rigorously and considering it as my career path. In my teen years, I used to successfully run piano learning classes in Belgaum so I can say that my love for music came naturally to me and it was this love that inspired me to pursue it as career.

Speaking about his academic life, Prince said, “I had taken up science in my pre-university college although I tried thrice to clear I was unable to finish my 12th grade in science. At that time, I never felt discouraged, I knew my passion was not science it was music so I decided to enhance my knowledge in the field of music I wanted to study and hence applied to Trinity college of London amongst 1200 applicants only 60 are selected all around the world and I was the lucky one amongst them but I couldn’t afford to pay for the fees. In such a time of difficulty, it was my school principal who came forward to help me financially as I got admitted to the college I performed well and last two years I studied as a scholarship student but without her help I would have not been able to complete my education. I have successfully completed highest level in music that is 8th grade specialized in Piano from Trinity college of London.” Adding to that he is also a certified Apple trainer for logic.

·         How do you work? What’s your routine like?

I usually work at nights and there is no set routine as such because I am doing so many things I have divided my life into studio and music production work, I do at least 5 live concerts in a month so lot of my time goes in practicing and lastly my personal life whenever I get time off work I invest this time in doing workshops and motivating youngsters.

·         You were trained under A.R. Rahman, how would you describe him?

I have observed him very closely and for me he is a man of humanity. He is a very humble person and even though he is a legend when he sits to create music he sits with an empty mind as he says, if we do not empty our mind then how can we fill it?

·         What’s your most memorable experience in your career?

I had composed one song called ‘love’ and one fine day I got a call from Pakistan and the person said to me that, I lost my friend in bomb blast and during the death ceremony they were playing your song and we were all so moved by the song that I wanted to find the composer of the song and speak. The moment he said that I was so touched receiving this kind of love is something very special for me. I don’t run after fame and money I think it is this love of people that motivates me to create music. It is such a beautiful feeling to know that when I compose music it reaches people from all over the world and it moves them too. This is my real reward for creating music.

·         Are you planning to launch yourself on the digital media platform?

I have been working on that as my favorite album will be out soon, it is called, ‘Shukaradha’ I am looking forward for the launch. We shall start our website in the beginning of 2018.

·         What kind of artist you want to be?

I think I want to be a ‘music entrepreneur’ and guide people in their musical journey. I am not after riches, cars and bungalows. I am a believer in the process and not a goal oriented person for me each day is an opportunity and I look forward to making each day beautiful. As an artist I want to help my fellow musicians and my musical dream is to own a production house.

·         If not a musician what else would you like to be?

Hm. I would love to be a Business man as I have grown up seeing poverty I want don’t want to face any dearth of money in my life so if I was not a musician then I would definitely be a business man.

·         What do you do in your leisure time?

I love to watch sports – football and cricket and recently I have picked up this new interest of reading books.

·         What is your favorite cuisine?

I love Italian food and cakes.

·         What advice would you like to give teenagers?

I think they need to find what they are passionate about and they must ask themselves such questions like, what excites me? What gives me sleepless nights?  And if they are still unable to figure it out then it’s okay, not everyone gets to know about their passion early so they can take time off and try understanding their likes and dislikes to discover their real passion in life.
